Collagraph printmaking is a form of printmaking that incorporates found materials and usually the printer collages them onto a plate. For this project I instead decided to use the found materials as the plates themselves. This piece is a continuation of my Single Use Plastic series.
What I enjoyed most about this series was the process behind collecting the materials. Over the years I have started to notice that when people reference undesirable jobs they like to use garbage collecting as the most common example, but when I started recruiting friends and family to collect their packaging waste for me, their reactions were pretty unexpected. Every single person I asked lit up when I requested they hold on to packaging waste once they learned I would be repurposing it to make printing plates. It is intriguing how excited people can become over garbage collecting despite society’s overall view on it.
