Marche du Nain Rouge is an event poster set designed to celebrate Cass Corridor’s very own cryptid and the yearly celebration of his banishment from the city of Detroit for another year. For those unfamiliar with who the Nain Rouge is or the traditions surrounding him, the Nain Rouge is a figure in Detroit folklore, a red imp known to bring misfortune to the people of Detroit, Marche du Nain Rouge is a parade that takes place in Cass Corridor during the third weekend of March. The parade is meant to banish the imp from Detroit for another year to keep the misfortune and bad luck he brings with him away. Recently there is also a counter protest that takes place, advocating for the Nain.

For the creation of this piece, I used dried hydrangeas from my backyard as the basis for the character. Since the parade coincides with the changing of season and around other holidays that celebrate and out with the old in with the new type of mentality I felt depicting the Nain through dead flowers from the previous year was metaphorically fitting for the event being represented.
