Convenient fantasy is a broadside created using letter pressed and block printed elements. The piece is partially based on an image I captured in 2020 while documenting signage for an Instagram I run under the pseudonym Penny Robinson. I utilized a cropped version of a much larger photo as the basis for the hand carve stamps used to block print the illustrations in the piece. The rest of my inspiration stemmed from the visual similarity in words and the story they tell, convenience Stores that sell lottery tickets and scratchers are selling a convenient fantasy to their customers. I constantly finding inspiration in seemingly mundane elements of our everyday lives, faded and outdated signs, a slight difference in the arrangement of letters that make up words, and the indulgence in delusions deemed socially acceptable available at your local corner store.
